The National Precast Concrete Association
2003 Yoakum Award presented to Scott Ditcher
Scott Ditcher, president of Atlantic Precast Industries and secretary/treasurer of Atlantic Precast Concrete Inc. in Tullytown, Pa., has been named the Robert E. Yoakum award winner by NPCA. The annual honor is presented to the individual or individuals who have played an integral role in promoting and advancing the precast concrete industry and providing service to the industry through leadership in NPCA.
Named in honor of Robert E. Yoakum, whose vision led to the formation of NPCA in 1966, the Yoakum Award is the association's highest honor.
NPCA's Chairman of the Board for 1996-1997, Ditcher currently serves as a member of the NPCA Educational Foundation Board of Directors. Last year, the foundation's golf fundraiser that he organized raised $15,500 for scholarships. Ditcher has also served on several ASTM committees and on the board of directors of the National Utility Contractors Association.
"I was truly astounded and am still somewhat shocked that the previous Yoakum Award recipients would consider me for inclusion into this group of distinguished individuals," said Ditcher. But he is quick to point out that he had some help along the way. "The Yoakum Award of Merit is an individual award that could not be earned without the support of many others who hold down the fort while you are conducting association and industry business. In my case these include my wife, Marty, daughters Jordan and Lissy, and all of my Atlantic family that continue the daily business while I'm not there. I can only accept this award on behalf of all of these important people who make me look good."
The award is not unique in the Ditcher family. Ditcher's father, John, earned the Yoakum Award of Merit in 1990. "Throughout the years, it was he who prompted me to be active in the association and industry for the betterment of both," said Ditcher, "so it is most gratifying to have my name included on the same list as his."
